Hotaling vs Martin Case

It took over 12 long years for this case to wind through the Superior Court of the County of San Francisco. Judge Hunt's final word did not come until late 1883, but his decision was determined and noted by the Courts early in 1882. This secured A. P. Hotaling's sole selling agency for the J.H. Cutter brand of whiskey and all rights and privileges accorded by this agreement. This clipping explains, in legal jargon, the outcome of Hunt's findings. The scrapbook that this article came from was the personal assemblage of someone unknown who must have been close to Hotaling, or perhaps was an employee of his firm. It is full of references to Hotaling's business interests and chronicles the J. H. Cutter "story", through news clippings, for some 20 years.Photobucket

  1. Any chance of getting crisp clear copies. Photo bucket further degrades the image quality and does not allow for enlargement as do some other formats. I am in regular contact with the decendents of A.P. and they would love to have access to the articles.

    Thanks!

  2. Who are you in contact with? Robert? I haven't talked to any of them in years.

  3. We dug a site across the ally from Hotaling's warehouse a few years ago and ran into a decendent of A.P. who just happened to be walking down the ally.

  4. One of Anson's great grandsons and his daughter are avid collectors of Cutter / Hotaling momorabilia. They prefer, however, to remain nameless and I will continue to honor their wishes.

  5. I corresponded with one of them for a few years, but he had little interest at the time and I eventually let it go.
